Medicare Part C is another name for Medicare Advantage. Medicare Part C is administered by private insurance companies contracted with Medicare. Medicare Part C covers everything that Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) cover and may cover extra benefits as well.

Why do I need Medicare Part C?

Medicare Part C plans generally have lower premiums than Medigap plans. This is because you are agreeing to treat in the plan’s network and pay copays as you go. The network may be an HMO network, where you’ll need to choose a primary care physician and get referrals.

What is the purpose of Part C Medicare?

The main purpose of Medicare Part C is to reduce the financial strain on Medicare funds by providing access to a variety of new health options to beneficiaries and thus incentivizing beneficiaries to join private health care plans as an alternative to the fee-for-service Medicare program.
